High-volume troubleshooting across Microsoft 365, networking, cloud backup, mobile and remote access. Roughly 98% first-contact resolution, and a 5% reduction in callbacks.
Emmanuel Chukwuemeka, MBCS. Fourteen years inside IT operations and service delivery at BT Group and Deighton Associates. Creator of The 365 Career Architecture System™.
After thirteen years in IT, I arrived at one conclusion: you do not rise by accident. You rise by architecture.
I spent most of those years living the patterns before I understood how to name them.
At one point, I was even recognised as the “King of Overtime” across the organisation.
I knew what it meant to work hard, become more capable and take on greater responsibility. What took me much longer to understand was that none of those things automatically meant my career was compounding in the direction I wanted.
I was becoming more experienced and more useful. What I had not yet learned was how to architect where all that effort was taking me.
The effort was real. The architecture was missing.
Hard work builds experience. Architecture gives that experience direction.
I began to ask a different question: not simply whether I was doing good work, but what that work was making possible for my career. That question became the starting point for The 365 Career Architecture System™.
At BT Group I was recognised with the BT Exemplar Award and the Most Improved Technical Support Specialist Oscar Award, company-level recognition for sustained service quality and standout performance improvement.
Alongside operational work, I spent a year as a concurrent lecturer and module leader in IT Service Management at De Montfort University, where eight of eleven students achieved first-time ITIL v3 certification. I hold an MSc in IT Service Management (Merit) from the University of Northampton, alongside ITIL 4 Foundation, ISC² Certified in Cybersecurity, and Microsoft Azure Fundamentals certifications, and I’m a member of BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT.
From frontline support to operational leadership.
High-volume troubleshooting across Microsoft 365, networking, cloud backup, mobile and remote access. Roughly 98% first-contact resolution, and a 5% reduction in callbacks.
Senior escalation, mentoring and quality oversight as one of ten leads in a 70-person operation, supporting a 4,000-plus-user environment at approximately 95% SLA performance.
Operational ownership of a multi-instance Azure SQL estate: 500+ databases, 60+ TB of managed capacity, and a governance dashboard giving leadership visibility of cost, capacity, risk and health.
In 2026, I began publishing what those thirteen years had taught me, as The 365 Career Architecture System™, a practitioner-developed model built on five interdependent layers: Identity, Skills, Value, Visibility, and Leverage.
The entry point is The Career Drift Diagnostic™, a structured self-assessment that names where professional effort compounds and where it drifts, followed by one concrete, evidence-producing action. Alongside it, I’m currently writing The Career Drift: Why Hard Work Alone Doesn’t Compound, the book-length architecture underneath the Diagnostic, for the IT professional who is capable, employed, and quietly sensing that effort has stopped translating into recognition.
None of this is theory built at a distance. It’s the same pattern I spent twelve years living before I named it, turned into an instrument other people can use without needing thirteen years to find it themselves.
A short version of a longer manifesto.
I will not outsource the architecture of my career, or anyone else’s. I will build skills, but I won’t mistake tools for identity. I will pursue responsibility, not merely recognition, and I will make contribution legible without confusing visibility with vanity.
Reliable systems are designed. I believe durable careers should be too.
I’m married, with three young children, and I hold the same standard at home that I try to hold everywhere else, that a well-led home and a well-led career aren’t competing priorities, and that when one is genuinely well, it strengthens the other. More on that, if you’re interested, here.
If you’re an IT professional sensing that effort has stopped compounding, start with the free Career Drift Diagnostic™: five minutes, no email required, and it’s the entry point to everything else I’ve built.
